Alison Muck
Multimedia Artist / Facilitating Producer / Motion & Still Camera / Earthling
Alison works to honor our connection to the earth, and each other, by studying the intersection of practices; with focus on world systems, sustainable solutions for earth health forward, and the art of ancient forms. Her ongoing exhibit; ‘Now More Than Human’ at The One 50 Hotel Miami Beach, speaks to the capacity for growth in us all.
Prior to proDSLR’s advent, Alison found a knack for directing and lighting design, then teamed to create Prentice Hall’s first video text. An all around creative, with a decade in visual production; she is largely self taught, holding Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Art in Criminology, Cum Laude, 3.9 GPA, University of Florida, 2002. Raised surrounded by the scientific method on an experimental farm studying biological pest control; better bet she’s tried more varieties of watermelon than you. After cameras stole her from law and academia, her training kept expounding, until she left the business for the unknown; finding that poems started to write themselves, while wet clay spared her lines for a time, as her walls filled with experiments in color and intent. When a writing gig tipped her on a different path informed by her childhood in horticulture, she found herself an ornamental gardener, known for Camellias dripping blooms. Now she is expanding Pollinator Alley, made-up of ornamental native plant focused gardens, with an emphasis on earth friendly practices; including promotion of pollinators, no mow, and no fertilizer, weedicides or pesticides. ‘Muck’ by teen nickname; an abbreviation of her surname inherited from her grandfather, and ‘A. Muck’ by chosen credit; as she continues the quest for respect of humanity over presumption of category; with equity, inclusivity and diversity for all.
Alison experiments across medium and dimension; her daily practice informed by movement health studies and the joy of dance. She is a researcher and constant hypothesizer; throws color, sculpts, paints, designs dimensionally, and writes. Now experimenting in planning and communication by combining movement and primary colors with the chaos in the world, thereby instinctually creating a visual of what is grinding the wheels in her head. Color is represented as analogy and its own conversation, while space and form suggest with subliminal intent, asking us; as people of earth, how do we stop hurting each other and move forward together, to allow for our continued existence on this shared planet.
